Less is more

To fulfill and enrich people’s common desire and social need in everyday lives, public spaces such as churches, shops, libraries, parks were brought into our living landscape. Most of time, people are bestowed the right to share those common resources, while few really take it as a gift to treasure. Gradually, cities are occupied with abandoned spaces of malfunction, which means more budgets for repair, because of abuse. A vicious circle formed due to free rider mindset.

Designers’ mission is not only to create something new but revitalize what became feeble. Through exercising in reborn spaces, people will be stimulated to reconsider the relationship between city and themselves. A good space will utter its words to users. A good spatial design must have the power to cultivate and shape the better attitude and interaction between people and the space they live in. This is what I believe we designers should strive for.
